Fourth Year Lifeguards

Fourth year lifeguards will be required to register for a American Red Cross Lifeguard Review course which includes: Lifeguard Training and First Aid, CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer, and Bloodborne Pathogens Training.

Lifeguard Review Course Reqirements:

  • Provide proof of Lifeguard Training, within 1 year of the expiration date.
  • Able to complete the American Red Cross prerequisite swim test before you can begin the course. The swim test will be given on the first day of class. The prerequisite swim test includes:
    • Swim 300 yards continuously demonstrating breath contol and rythmic breathing. Front crawl or breast stroke or a combination of both can be used. Goggles may be used for the 300 swim.
    • Tread water for two minutes using only the legs.
    • Swim 20 yards using front crawl or breaststroke, surface dive to a depth of 7-10 feet and retrieve a 10-pound object, return to surface, and swim 20 yards on your back, return to the starting point while holding the brick with two hands within 1 minute and 40 seconds. Time stops when you place the brick on deck and exit the water without using a ladder or stairs. Goggles may not be used for the brick.
  • Complete and pass an American Red Cross Lifeguard Training Review course.

Participants are required to attend ALL dates and times of the scheduled course. Do not register for a separate CPR/AED class.

The Lifeguard Training Review course is normally scheduled over one weekend. The course takes approximately 16 hours to complete. Participants are required to attend all dates and times of the scheduled course. You do not need to register for a separate CPR/AED course.

After passing the entire Lifeguard Training Review course, you will be certified in the following:

  • Lifeguard Training and First Aid (2 year certification)
  • CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers (2 year certification) but, GHPMI requires lifeguards to recertify each year before season.
