Fifth and sixth year lifeguards will be required to register for a American Red Cross CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer Review Course.

If you are taking the CPR/AED class with another company, make sure you receive the correct certificates. A copy of the front and back will need to be turned in before you begin working. The CPR/AED certificate should read:

• CPR/AED for Lifeguards (valid for 1 year) or American Red Cross CPR/AED for Healthcare Providers (valid for 2 years, but GHPMI requires re-training every year)

CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer Review Course Requirements:

• Having been certified in American Red Cross Lifeguard Training/ First Aid, and CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer.

• Provide proof of Lifeguard Training/First Aid certification that do not expire prior to the end of the summer season (9/30).

• Enroll in an American Red Cross CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer class. Please note: CPR classes are often offered at schools and churches; however, these classes tend to be Community CPR rather than CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer. Community CPR classes will not meet the requirements of a lifeguard.

The entire CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer Review course is normally scheduled for an entire day. The course takes approximately 6 hours to complete. Participants are required to attend all dates and times of the scheduled course.

After passing the entire CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer Review course, you will be certified in the following:

• CPR/AED for Lifeguards (1 year certification)

• Bloodborne Pathogens/PDT (1 year certification)
