2012 LG Instructor Training

These classes will be the newest revision (r.12) of the American Red Cross Lifeguarding Program. The description will change as we get more information.

American Red Cross Lifeguarding Instructor (LGI) class allows you to teach various courses such as:

  • Lifeguard Training
  • CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer
  • Lifeguard Management
  • Bloodborne Pathogens: Preventing Disease Transmission
  • Oxygen Administration
  • Guard Start
  • Basic Water Rescue
  • Lay Responder FA/CPR/AED (with self study)

Candidates will be asked to complete four practice teaching assignments, using Instructor materials.

Come to class prepared each day and actively participate in all sessions.

PREREQUISITES

  • 17 yrs of age by the last scheduled day of class
  • FIT Certificate (GHPM teaches this on the first day)
  • Successfully complete the following:
  • LG written test (which includes CPR/AED and First Aid)
  • CPR/AED skills test
  • First Aid skills test
  • 300 yard swim (100 front crawl, 100 breaststroke, 100 either stroke)
  • Retrieve 10 lb brick in 7-10 feet of water and swim 20 yards using a kick only.
  • All the basic level Lifeguard Training skills
  • Lifeguard Training skills test

ITEMS PROVIDED BY GHPM:

  • American Red Cross Lifeguarding Instructor Manual w/CD rom
  • American Red Cross Lifeguard Management Participant Manual
  • American Red Cross Certification Cards (if individual passes all ARC requirements)

LUNCHES AND BREAKS FOR ALL CLASSES:

  • Lunch Breaks: PLEASE BE ADVISED THAT ALL STUDENTS MUST BRING LUNCH EACH DAY. STUDENTS WILL NOT BE PERMITTED TO LEAVE THE CLASS TO PURCHASE LUNCH.
  • Breaks: There will be small 5 to 10 minute breaks throughout the classes.

WHAT TO BRING TO CLASS: Each student needs to bring proof of age, bathing suit, basic level book, pocket mask, towels, pen and paper.

FEES-If you are applying for employment with GHPMI for the 2012 season, you can pay the employee fee. All others will pay the additional non-employee fee of $75.00.

REGISTRATION STEPS: We accept Visa, Master card and Discover.

Credit card payment will ensure your spot in the class, but if you want to pay by check, please email eugeniab@greaterhoustonpool.com.

To pay by check- Do not continue the registration process through the website. Use the email above to request the registration form. We will email a registration form designed for check payments. You can always stop by the Cypress office to register and pay.

NON-GHPM EMPLOYEES- Click on link below. Follow directions on website to create an account. To complete the registration process, you must enter credit card (visa, master card or discover) information and you will be emailed a registration receipt and confirmation letter.

All non employees must pay the non employee fee-$75.00 more than the employee rate. This will be automatically calculated during your check out process. Non-Employees are required to pay by credit card.
